Savate is the French form of Thai boxing and uses various styles of street fighting in France. It was a common form of fighting in the early 19^th century and was mostly seen in Paris and at the port of Marseille. In Marseille, the early forms of Savate were used by sailors who fought using high kicks that came to be known as jeu marseillais.
